About the project
KYRAN is a digital atlas of Kazakhstan: official regional statistics on an interactive map, with history, charts and transparent sources.
We do not rate regions or compile rankings. Indicators are given with their period, unit of measurement and source, and conclusions are left to the user.
Data come from open official sources, primarily the Bureau of National Statistics, and are stored in their original form. If a value changes at the source, we keep the new version rather than overwrite the old one.
Found an error? Write to us — we will check the original source.
Regional data are collected from open datasets of the Bureau of National Statistics (stat.gov.kz). The list of datasets and links to the originals are on the "Sources" page. Sources
How the data are organised
- Every value is stored together with its period, unit of measurement, source, dataset and the original string from the source. If the source revises a value, we keep the new version and do not delete the old one.
- A missing value is never replaced with zero: where there is no data, maps and tables say "No data".
- Some indicators are calculated (for example, natural increase or GRP per capita). They are labelled "calculated", and the formula is given in the indicator description.
- In 2022 the Abai, Jetisu and Ulytau regions were separated from other regions. Where the source has no values for the new regions for earlier years, the data of the Almaty, Karaganda and East Kazakhstan regions before 2022 are given within their former borders; such a series is drawn as a dashed line on charts.
